The mechanical portion of this project started in September 2010, and was completed for occupancy in June 2011. The project average for plumbers and pipe fitters was 15 men. The mechanical services included Lab exhaust, Medical Gases, Plumbing, Hot Water Heating, and Chilled Water Cooling. Through extensive pre fabrication, we were able to meet the timelines onsite. Over 5000 feet of heating and cooling piping was pre- fabricated in our shop. We were able to pre fabricate this amount of piping mains in the building by extensive interference and coordination before the structural steel was onsite. The day the floors were poured, all heating and cooling pipe mains were delivered to the jobsite and installed within 2 weeks. The project had 2 complete operating rooms, and multiple patient rooms throughout, all complete with medical gas headwalls. 90% of the mechanical room was pre-fabricated as well, with minimal joints onsite. Due to design challenges, Dean-Lane was asked to provide opinions for best practices to assist in keeping costs down and construction on track. After the project was completed, Dean-Lane was hired directly by the college for additional work onsite.
